Living on the Outer Banks for many means stepping outside the box and forging their own path, and the same is true for our homes. Why be boring when you can be colorful and bold? Why have an average run of the mill home interiors when you have so much inspiration right outside your door. From the brilliant sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean to the breathtaking sunsets over the sounds, we just can’t help bring some of that indoors.

The Wright Brother’s found inspiration here and so can you. Let’s explore ways to brighten every day rooms, Outer Banks beach style.

LIVING ROOM

Natural wood and neutral textures, dark metal elements with pops of color make this coastal living room  interior design magazine worthy. Don’t be afraid to mix your fabrics and textures, like the fantastic pairing of the linen sectional with the red velvet couch.

BATHROOM

Bathrooms are bathrooms, so most people don’t give them a second thought. But why not give them a little character of their own? Living coastal doesn’t mean they always need to have shells and seaside decor, or the common blue and white boating theme. Keep them simple or give them a little bling like below (note the gold faucet).

BEDROOM

One of the ways to stand out amongst the vacation rentals on the Outer Banks goes beyond location. Instead of cookie-cutter rooms like hotels have, insert a little color and character into each room. This is one of the reasons the SAGA-built vacation homes stand out, each home has a unique name and style, with no details left to chance. From the moment you walk in you will notice the difference, even the bedrooms are gorgeous!

KIDS ROOMS

Kids really get into the beach lifestyle when they have a bright and cheerful bedroom. Imagine the story telling from bunk to bunk, flashlights under the covers after a day of fun in the sun. Cousins, friends, siblings — kids bedrooms shouldn’t be overlooked, paint them a bold colored fun zone.

THEATRE ROOM

Did you think viewing movies meant you’d just be sitting in the dark? Theatre rooms are the optimum entertainment gallerias. Decorate with your favorite movie posters or themes. There is nothing more glamorous than Hollywood, so this room is a must for big and bold. Another idea is to toss some oversized bean bag chairs up front for the little ones.

Pop the popcorn and cue the Star Wars movie soundtrack by the London Symphony Orchestra and have an epic time together.

TRIVIA

What movies or shows were filmed on the Outer Banks, or about the Outer Banks?

  • Nights in Rodanthe You can see the “B&B” that was used in this movie starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, and even stay in it, click here.
  • Outer Banks Super popular Netflix series, not filmed on the Outer Banks at all.
  • Peanut Butter Falcon A heartwarming tale written by Kill Devil Hills’ local Tyler Milson, and Michael Schwartz, starring some big names in the business.
  • Wicked Tuna Outer Banks Much loved NatGeo series about Bluefin Tuna fisherman, and some of them are from the North (hence the “wicked” part of the title — their usage not ours).
