Congratulations to Currituck County 4-H’er Cayden Lowe who placed 3rd in the Horse Public Speaking category of the Communications competition at the Western National Invitational (Virtual). Cayden was representing North Carolina in the competition which had 13 youth from 11 states. Cayden won Gold medals at the 2020 District and State NC 4-H Public Speaking Contest with her presentation “Coming Back with Confidence“ and qualified to compete at the National Invitational Contest.
At N.C. Cooperative Extension, 4-H Youth Development strives to equip young people with the knowledge and skills they need to become successful adults. Effective communications and public speaking skills are vital for youth as they develop into tomorrow’s leaders. The 2020 District and State competition was conducted virtually, so participants mastered several new technologies in order to prepare and present their 5-12 minute presentation for judging.
This annual public speaking contest is open to all Currituck County youth. For information on this or any other 4-H program, contact the 4-H & Youth Development Agent, Sherry Fischlschweiger at 252-232-2262.
