The Museum of the Albemarle will host our monthly History for Lunch Hybrid (both in person and via Zoom video), on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 12 p.m. Mark Hassler, PhD, associate professor of the Old Testament and director of the master of program at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary, will explore recent discoveries from Khirbet el-Maqatir, arguably site of Biblical cities Ai (Joshua 7-8) and Ephraim (John 11:47-54). The site had a military fortress that was destroyed during the Israelite conquest of Canaan, only to be rebuilt and destroyed again in the First Jewish Revolt (66-73 CE) against Rome. Military artifacts and architecture shed light on warfare practices in the ancient Near East.
The Museum will offer our History for Lunch in-person and through Zoom video. The educational program will be in the Gaither Auditorium of the Museum for in-person guests that still wish to social distance. This lecture will also be online: register in advance through the Museum’s Facebook page or website to receive link to attend lecture.
The virtual program is supported by Southern Bank.
