If it is September, it must be time for the Albemarle Area United Way to host Day of Caring! Despite the craziness of the pandemic, we are still planning on proceeding with a “version” of Day of Caring on Friday, September 18. Traditionally, Day of Caring has been an all-volunteer event where folks roll up their sleeves and work together to make a difference in our community. This year the AAUW has 5 Partner Agencies who have asked for assistance on that day as well as a virtual option that we are coordinating with the Albemarle Commission. They have two programs (Cards of Encouragement and Letters of Love) in place where volunteers write personal notes to older adults in hopes of decreasing their sense of isolation.
