Marriage licenses can be obtained at the Register of Deeds office on the mainland. Marriage licenses may also be obtained in any county in North Carolina. All persons 18 years and older may lawfully marry. In addition, persons at least 16 years of age and under 18 years of age may marry, provided they have written consent of parent(s) having custody and a certified birth certificate. A Notary Public or the Register of Deeds must sign the consent forms.
Both a Drivers License AND a Social Security number is required from the bride and groom.
There is no waiting period before or after obtaining the marriage license, and the license is valid for 60 days.
Divorced applicants must provide the month and the year that the divorce had been finalized.
Both bride and groom must appear in person with the identification mentioned above to purchase their marriage license. The cost of the marriage license is $60. The Currituck County Register of Deeds is opened from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, for marriage licenses. Marriage licenses will not be issued after 4 p.m. Please allow yourself plenty of time.
